Holmlea’s Leak Still a Mystery
WELLINGTON, February 24. “We cannot find anything wrong just yet”, said Captain S. Holm today, on his return from Westport, where he inspected the collier, Holmlea, which was towed to Westport with hei’ holds awash and berthed on Monday morning. He said there was no explanation of how the water had got into the ship, and the Holmlea’s condition was quite good.
He added that the Marine Department was investigating. It was necessary for the Holmlea to slip her anchor when taken in tow to make port on Monday morning, and it has not been possible to make any attempt yet to recover it. It was decided to make an effort to find it on Wednesday morning, but rough seas caused the attempt to be’ postponed. The result of the preliminary inquiry into the leakage at sea has not been made public.
