EIRE MAY ADMIT TO DAIL M’s.P. FROM NORTHERN IRELAND
(N.Z.P.A.—REUTER CABLE) (Rec. 8.0). DUBLIN, February 24. The Eireann Prime Minister. Mr John Costello, disclosed in the Dail Eireann that the Government of Eire was examining the possibility of admitting to the Dail Eireann the Nationalist members of the Northern Ireland Parliament in Belfast. One member of the Dail had asked Mr Costello if the Eire Government had considered a request from Mr E. McAteer, a Nationalist member of the Northern Ireland Parliament, to take his scat in the Dail, and had the Government, considered the legal and constitutional changes that would be necessary to “enable the elected representatives of the Irish people, now residing in the six Northern counties, to take their seats in the Dail”. Mr Costello then replied that the position was being examined. EIRE’S DEFENCE LONDON, Feb. 23. The Eire Minister of External Affairs. Mr Sean Mcßride, said in the Dail Eireann to-day that he had told the United States that Eire agreed with the general aim' of the Atlantic Pact, but, as long as partition lasted, any military commitment, with Britain was out of the question. The defence of Ireland, he added, by a single authority, supported by the decisive majority of the whole country.
