High Level After Full Tide

For more than an hour after high tide, the level of the flood waters continued to rise and at 9.45 p.m. only about 20iinches separated the top decking of the wharf opposite the Matthew Flinders, from the waters. This level was maintained for some time before it became clear that the flood was decreasing. The level was then six inches above the level at high tide. The current increased in velocity to over twelve knots adding to the danger to ships in port. In the meantime, as the waters backed up there was considerably more water in Greymouth streets and to-day there should be considerable silt to clean from gutters and footpaths.
