STOWAWAY’S RESCUE AFTER GRIM ORDEAL

(Rec 10.45) LONDON, Feb 23. Hearing tappings, some Manchester dockers worked for six hours to rescue a bearded and almost unconscious stowaway, believed to be a Pole, from the hold of a timber-laden ship which arrived from Danzig yesterday. The tappings first were heard after the.ship had passed through the Kiel Canal, but they became weaker each day. The man was found in a pocket with only a few inches in which to move between the bulkhead and the timber. Reuter's Agency says that the man must have been there for at least 14 days.
