P.A. WANGANUI, February 23. Four Australian athletes, M. Cur- | otta, D. White, G. Avery and G. Goodacre, appeared here to-night. There were atrocious conditions, with heavy rain and a strong wind. Much interest was taken in the invitation 100 yards race between the Australian sprir./ champion, M. Curotta, and the All Black three-quarter, F. Henderson, the Wanganui sprint champion. Curotta won by three yards from Henderson in heavy rain, and against a strong wind. Detailed results were: 100yds invitation: M. Curotta (Australia) 1, P. Henderson (Wanganui) 2. Time: 10.3 sec. 880yds: R. Carlyon 1, L. M. Jensen (45) 2, S. McKenzie (scr) 3. D. White (Australia), who was on scratch, was not placed. Time: lmin 58.1 sec. 220yds:. First heat: M. Curotta (scr) ’l, P. Henderson (3yds) 2, H. Brewer (11) 3. Time 22.65ec. Curotta did not compete in the final, which was won by Crimp, Pearce being second, and Perigo third. Time: 22.1 sec. One mile: N. Bates (scr) 1, F. Goodwin (60yds) 2, C. O’Donnell (140) 3. Time: 4min 24.8 sec. D. White (Australia), (scr) was not placed. Hop, step, and jump: G. Avery (Australia) (scr) 1, Wallace (6ft) 2, K. Forsythe (2ft) 3. Distance: 47ft sin. Broad jump: K. Forsythe (Wanganui) 1, G. Avery (Australia) 2, G. Goodacre (Australia) 3. Distance: 20 ft lOin. High jump: G. Goodacre (Australia) 1, G. Avery (Australia) 2, S. Galloway (Feilding) 3. Distance: 5 ft 9in.
