STOLEN HOTEL SAFE FOUND UNOPENED

DUNEDIN, Feb. 21

A safe belonging to the owner of the. Bay View Hotel, Mr F. Massetti, was restored to him by the police on Saturday night after it had been stolen from the hotel and dropped on the roadway near the St Kilda tram terminus. A substantial amount of money was in the safe, which was unopened. Some time between 6.30 and 7.30 on Saturday evening while Mr Massetti was awav, intruders forced open the door and removed the safe. Later in the evening a safe was seen Ivina- in Prince Albert road and the South Dunedin police were informed of the fact. The safe was eventually delivered to the Central Police Station where an' inquiry was made by the owner when he had discovered the burglary. The safe was not damaged in any way.
