Retail Traders Not Satisfied with N.Z. Radio Advertising
p.A. TIMARU, Feb. 21 Objection to the quality of the features and programmes offered to commercial advertisers by the Dominion radio service was expressed at tne annual conference of the New Zealand Retailers’ Federation. “The Government is exploiting a monopoly it has in featured programmes,” said Mr A. Jones (Dunedin) in sponsoring a remit drawing the attention of the Minister of Broadcasting to the matter. “The commercial broadcasting service is now offering advertisers feature programmes which were put over from Y.A. stations two or three years ago, and, until these features are taken up by advertisers, it appears that the service will not purchase anything new.” Mr A. C. Sievwright (Wanganui'): “The population of New Zealand is too small to have good feature programmes. Good programmes are available from overseas, provided that the advertisers are prepared to pa?/ for them, but the cost would be w’■ hibitive on a population basis. The present programmes are deplorably poor.” . , ‘ , The matter was referred back to the affiliated associations for further information.
