CAPE GOVERNMENT'S FEAR OF COMMUNISTS
(N.Z.P.A.—REUTER CABLE) (Rec. 9.5). CAPE TOWN, Feb. 20. The Defence Minister of South Africa, Mr Erasmus, said to-day that the Communist penetration was becoming a matter of increasing importance to South Africa’s internal defence. He added that their home defence should be priority number one. In the face of a possible outbreak of Communist riots, it was the Government’s duty to keep the home defence on a level which would ensure that the country would not be caught unawares. „ ~ Mr Erasmus announced that the membership of the Defence Rifle Associations had reached fifty thousand.
