INVERCARGILL M.P. NOT STANDING AGAIN

INVERCARGILL, Feb. IS. For family and business reasons, Mr J. R. Hanan, National Party member for Invercargill, has decided not to contest the seat at the next General Election. In a statement, Mr Hanan said he had advised the executive of the Invercargill branch of the party that he would not seek re-election, but would continue to devote his full time to all political duties until the end of the present Parliament. Mr Hanan is a partner in a legal firm in the city and was returned as member for Invercargill at the 1946 election, unseating the Labour candidate, Mr W. Denham. ’.Appreciative references to the services rendered to New Zealand and to Southland in particular, by Mr Hanan were made to-day by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, states a Wellington Press Association message.
