NO LORD MAYORS IN NEW ZEALAND
P.A. WELLINGTON, February 18. The Mayors of Wellington and Auckland will not become Lord Mavors.. The Government does not propose to alter the status of the mavors of New Zealand cities. This was stated to-day by the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry). The Deputy-Mayor of Wellington, Mr. R. L. Mac Alister, commenting on Mr Parry’s announcement in the abscence of the Mayor, Air. Appleton, said he thought it a pity that the status of the Mayor of the capital city of the Dominion at least should not be recognised and brought into line with the status of the mayors in the capitals of other parts of the British Commonwealth.
