N.Z. LOAN CONVERSION AT LONDON

WELLINGTON, Feb. IT. The Minister of Finance, Mr Walter Nash, cunfirmed the report of the New Zealand Government converting its 3t per cent. London loan of £7,322,579, maturing February 1, 1949-54. Mr Nash said there would be a small but welcome reduction in interest charges amounting to more than £40,000 yearly. , x ' The Minister announced that he had preliminary discussions about, a further loan of £7,500,000, with interest at 5 per cent., maturing December 15. 1949, and he proposed to continue these discussions after the present conversion operation had been completed. He added it was a little early to forecast how New Zealand would deal with the December loan.
