KUMARA NOTES

Mr and Mrs Jack Pamment, junr., and family, of Glenavy, visited relatives here last week.

Mr Harry Morgan, a former resident of Dillmanstown, paid a brief visit to friends here before returning to Auckland. Mr W. Murdoch, of Wellington, was a visitor here last week. Mr Frank Kelly, of Christchurch, and formerly of Kumara, paid a visit here IcJst week. Mr and Mrs Geo. Brown have returned after spending a holiday in Christchurch. Mrs Corbett, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Mary Corbett, of Dunedin, spent a holiday here with Mrs Corbett’s brother, Mr John Stewart. Mrs Fitzpatrick, of Invercargill, is at present visiting her son, Mr J. Fitzpatrick, oostmaster, Kumara. Mrs Collins has returned after a visit to Christchurch.

Mrs Ollerenshaw presided over a good attendance at the February meeting of the Kumara Women’s Institute, held on Wednesday afternoon last. The president welcomed Mrs McNabb back -after a long absence through sickness. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Fahey and Miss C. Gibson. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect with Mrs Gibson in her recent bereavement. Letters were read from Mrs Dillon and the Matron of Westland Hospital. The president read the Dominion president’s letter. The nomination of officers was then made for the new year. The Golden Thread talk was read by Mrs A. Caithness on “The Rainbow Colours”. The A.C.E. boxon shopuing bags were viewed by members. A beautiful patch-work double bed quilt was on display. This was won by Mrs J. Pool at a meeting held in Harihari last October. The work was done by the Wataroa Women’s Institute. The competitions for the afternoon were: Best collection of vegetables, Mrs irss 1, Mrs Sinclair 2, Mrs Ollerenshaw 3. Best bloom, Mrs Birss 1, Mrs Fitzpatrick 2, Mrs McNabb 3. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Gibson and Pool.
