DOUBLE WIN FOR HOKITIKA D.H.S.

The A and B teams of the Hokitika District*High School scored good wins over Marist in their annual matches played at Hokitika on Wednesday. Perfect conditions prevailed at Cass Square, where the Hokitika team, batting first, made the good total of 160 runs (O’Brien 47, Boyd 25, Hyndman 26, Algar 12, Broome 22). At one stage they had lost two for six and three for 12, hut the remaining batsmen mastered the Marist bowling. For Marist, Lynch took 5 for 79, runs in 18 overs, Bourke 4 for 41 in 14 overs, and McDairmid 1 for 11 off 2 overs.

Marist made a disastrous opening, their wickets falling cheaply to the Hokitika bowlers. Best scorers were Bayley 19, Bourke 13, Skinner 13. Meates 14, and the side was all out for 78. For Hokitika, Broome took six for 24 off 13.4 overs, and Algar 4 for 20 off six overs.

Hokitika declared their second innings closed with 1 down for 34 (Hyndman retired 12, Parker not out 12). Marist had scored 28 runs without loss at stumps (Bailey 14, Lynch 14).

B TEAMS’ GAME Hokitika D.H.S. beat Marist on the first innings in a game played at Seaview. Hokitika were dismissed for 55 (Hill 20, being the only player, to reach double figures). For Marist, Kortegast took 3 for 19, McLaughlin 3 for 8, Lynch 2 for 11, Barrow 1 for 5, and Furness 1 for 4. In reply, Marist made only 39 (Barrow 9, Cooper 9). For Hokitika, Brown took 6 for 17, and Thorp 3 for 4 Hokitika had lost five wickets for 37 (Barltrop 9, Hill 9), at stumps.
