STRIKE ON TEKAPO HYDRO JOB
CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 17. Work on the Lake Tekapo hydroelectric scheme stopped at 3.30 p.m. yesterday as the result of the dismissal of two men, according to a message received from a member of the union committee at Lake Tekapo.
A. stop-work meeting lasting two hours was held' last evening and was to be continued at 10 o’clock this morning, he said. Work at the job would not continue until the two men had been reinstated, he said. P.A. TIMARU, Feb. 17
About 220 men employed by the Public Works Department at the hydro-electric works at Lake Tekapo went on strike on Wednesday afternoon. because two of their number had been dismissed. It is thought that the men will remain on strike until the two men have been reinst at ecl The' matter was referred .to the engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department, Mr F. Langbein. tonight. He said that he had no information abpill thn strike.
