BOROUGH COUNCILS TO TREAT DOGS AS BEING NUISANCE
NAPIER, Feb. 16.
Should registration fees be substantially increased in an endeavour to reduce the dog nuisance in boroughs? This question was answered in the affirmative after an animated debate by the Municipal Association this morning, when the annual conference adopted a remit urging that legislation allowing a substantial increase in fees, except for working does, be enacted.
Mr W. P. Hartstonge (Mosgiel), moving the adoption of the remit, submitted that the large number of dogs now kept in boroughs created a definite nuisance and considered that by substantially increasing the registration fee the nuisance would be abated. .
The remit was adopted by a substantial margin.
