ATHLETICS Australians at Whangarei

WHANGAREI, February 16. Four of the visiting Australian Australian athletes, Curotta, Avery, Goodacre and White were the star attractions at a sports meeting here this afternoon. Heavy rain yesterday and to-day made the track heavy for running and treacherous far high jumping, but sterling contests, in which honours were shared by Australians, Aucklanders and Northlanders were witnessed. BIG PROFIT ON OLYMPIC GAMES LONDON, Feb 15. The Olympic Game of 1948 made an estimated surplus of £29,850,. subject to liquidation expenses, according to a preliminary statement of accounts. Receipts were £599,850 and expenses £570,000. The total attendance at all the venues was £1,247.283. Any surplus after the liquidation expenses will be handed over to the British Olympic Association or a body affiliated with it for disposal to various sporting organisations.
