Grey Marching Team Competes at Christchurch

CHRISTCHURCH, Dec 19. Colour and movement were the keynotes of the marching d.splay held at the Show Grounds by the Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Marching Association. In opening the contest, the president of the Canterbury centre (Mr R Fo’-scutt) introduced the president of the New Zealand Marching Association (Colonel G. O’Leary). A maze march ,by ’ the, Christchurch teams, as the first item, was a glorious picture. Of the eleven teams competing, ten belonged to Christchurch, the only visiting team being the Greymouth Grenadiers. For "music they had the choice of the City of Christchurch H'ghrand Pipe Band, or the Woolston Brass Band, and in their choice the v were evenly divided. That made it something' of a band contest too. The Forscutt Cup for the first year team gaining the highest points was won by Celia, the runners-up being Caledonian. The medal for the leader gaining Irghest points went to Miss Jean Butler (Avon) with Miss Joyce Forbes (Celia) second'. The championship went to Pirate with Celia second The best visiting team was Greymouth Grenadiers. The best team costume was won by Celia.
