Township Of Buller Water Supply

(From Our Own Reporter) REEFTON, October 28.

The maintenance of the water supply to the township of Buller, in face of a growing demand, was the subject of a letter to the Inangahua, County Council from the district engineer of the N.Z, Railway Department, Mr W. E. Ruddy, received at the meeting of the Council to-day. He stated that in order to supply the six railway houses in the township, the Department was prepared to maintain the dam and carry out repairs. Cr O’Regan said that the fall of the land was all against, bringing water to the township. If the town continued to grow, he said, the Railwtr/ Department was contemplating getting water this side of the Junction ori the side of the hill. He said that though the water now being used by the township came over a papa rock outcrop, very little effect was noticeable on the pipes, and some were almost as good as when they were first installed. He pointed out that a completely new water supply for the town would cost anything between £BOOO and £lO,OOO. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of Cr O’Regan to arrange a further meeting with the citizens of the township to discuss the matter.
