“Wanganella” Enters Water Again

After completing 283 days in the floating- dock, the Wanganeila had been partially lowered Into the water by lunch-time to-day, while experts maintained a constant and close inspection to test the soundness oJL the, reconstructed hull. | It was stated early this afternoon that, provided the examination was satisfactory and other conditions favourable, it was proposed to move the the liner from the floating dock later to-day. Tugs were at call if required to help in transferring the Wanganeila' to' a berth at the dock wharf, where the reconstruction and restoration will be completed before the liner undergoes sea trials in Cook Strait. In the first part of to-day’s operation, the Wanganeila was lowered to a point where she was drawing lift forward and she was kept there while the hull was tested for leaks. Some were found and they were promptly sealed. A stiff northerly wind had developed early this afternoon. Experts stated that over 1,000.000 rivets had been used since the first one was driven into the vertical keel last March. _______
