LIVERPOOL MINERS IDLE IN PROTEST OF COURT DELAYS

Indignant at the number of remands granted in a charge of manslaughter against a Liverpool miner, the mine was idle yesterday. About 200 miners attended the Greymouth Police Court for the hearing, and at the conclusion of the case, cheered and clapped the verdict of dismissal. The president of Runanga State Miners’ Union, Mr G. E. English, said there had been eight remands and the accused man, and his wife, had been suffering considerable mental anxiety. He said he had made several appeals to the Minister of Justice, Hon. H. G. R. Mason, for the case to proceed, but had received only stereotyped replies.
