BEEF PRICES AGAIN DROP AT ADDINGTON MARKET YESTERDAY

Sheep Also Slightly Easier P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, October 27. Again this week the price of beei showed a considerable decline at Addington, with slight reductions m .sheen prices. ' Stock for auction was Horup to a high standard. Store sheep: The entry was 392 1. comprising 1507 hoggets, 1229 ewes and lambs, and 1127 wctheis. Bidding was steady, but not as keen as at recent sales. Nearly two-thirds of the hoggets were made up of annual station drafts. Prices were erratic, and there was a reduction of about Is. Best made 35s to 41s, medium 29s 3d to 335; others were down to 245. Several good lines of ewes and lambs were forward but the demand was erratic and the prices a shaae easier. The best made 29s 6d to 3os 9d, medium 23s to 275; others down to 17s, all counted. The wether entry was’ the largest for some time. Best _sold at 36s to. 445, medium 30s to 355, light were down to 275. Spring lamb: The entry was 588, and bidding for the best was steady at last week's prices, but the remainder were a shade easier. Values were: Extra prime spring lambs to 46s 7d, prime 40s to 445, good 36s to 395, medium 33s to 355, light 30s to 325. Fat hoggets: The entry was 943, and choice sorts sold well at last week’s prices, but interest in the remainder was confined to two dr three buvers at lower rates. Fat sheep: The entry was about 4500. The quantity was not over impressive, and the sale was erratic throughout. Wethers held fairly well to last week’s prices, until Ihe last two races, when most buyers had filled their requirements and there was a recession of up to 10s. Fat. cattle: The entry was 625, and the quality was not good. Some lots should have been in store pens. After a firm opening, best steers and heifers receded 20s, plain steers 30s, and cows about 10s. Best beef made to 72s 6d per 100 lb, with some sales at 755; good 55s to 60s; medium 45s to 50s; best cow to 57s 6d; secondary to 42s 6d. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers to £36 2s 6d, prime heavy £23 to £25, prime medium-weight £2O to £22, ordinary and light £l6 to £'|), extra prime heifers to £2B 17s 6d. prime £l4 to £l7, ordinary and light £lO to £l3. extra prime cows to £24 llff 6d, prime £ll 10s to £l6 10s, ordinary and light £7 to £lO. The porker yarding was the largest for several weeks. Competition was keen throughout, and the sale was the best for several years. Choppers were in medium supply, and the demand was keener at values about 3Cs above last year. The bacon entry was also large, and the demand good. Values were erratic, especially over the concluding stages, when the lighter sorts were selling at lower prices than heavy porkers. Values were: Light porkers £4 19s fid to £5 7s 6d, medium £5 9s 6d to £5 19s 6d, heavy £6 2s 6d to £6 12s 6d. The average per lb was lid to 15d.
