Dairymen Differ On Exchange Parity
WELLINGTON, Sept 3. The delegate to the Dominion Dairy Conference to-day differed over the question whether the conference should place on record its condemnation of the exchange alteration. The original motion, put forward by a member of the Dairy Board Mr A. J. Sinclair, was to the effect that the conference placed on record its disapproval of the Government’s arbitratary action in reducing the income of the dairy industry by £10,000,000 annually as a contribution to the economic Stability of the country. The carrying of such a resolution would be flogging a dead horse, said Mr C. P. Agar (southern ward). Finally, on the motion of a New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company delegate, Mr A. Hayward, the conference decided to endorse the remarks of the chairman, Mr W. E. Hale, yesterday, when he said that it seemed grossly unfair that the exchange should be altered aftei’ the seven-year contract had just been negotiated iri London for dairy produce. v . Mr Sinclair withdrew his resolution in favour of that eventually passed. , ..
