PRIME MINISTER ADDRESSES MARCHING ASSN.

“Marching provides all girls with the opportunity of expressing themselves in a beautiful and beneficial way,” said the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, addressing the annual" meeting of the New Zealand Marching Association in Wellington last Saturday. The next New Zealand marching

championships will be held in Wellington in March. The North Island championships Igo to the Manawatu centre and will | be held in Palmerston North in February. Nelson will be the venue for the South Island championships, ' All girls’ marching in New Zeawhich will also be held in February, and will now be controlled by the association. The meeting decided to change the name of the association from the New Zealand Marching and Recreation Association to the New Zealand Marching Association. The New Zealand Marching Union had agreed to affiliate with the association if the , change in name was made.

Mi’ G. S. Austad, chairman of the national executive, was elected the first life member of the association. He lives in Wellington and represents Otago on the executive. ELECTION OF OFFICERS Officers elected were: Patron, the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Preyberg; vice-patrons, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland and the Minister of Internal Affairs. Mr Parry; president, Lieut.-Colonel G. P. O’Leary, 0.8. E.; vice-presidents, presidents of the 19 affiliated centres; secretary, Mr K. W. Kilpatrick; treasurer. Mr N. Sellen; hon. solicitor, Mi’ M. Gillespie.
