U.S AIR FORCE TO EXPAND CONSIDERABLY

WASHIHNGTON, May 2. Congress is expected to . approve of the expansion of the Air Force to 70 groups of 12.441 operational aircraft and 502,000 men. The Air Force’s maximum strength in wartime was 270 groups with 80,000 aeroplanes of all types, including a large number of transport planes and 2,411,000 men. The Senate Appropriations Committee annroved on April 29 the provision of 3,198,000,000 dollars to modernise the Air Force’s existing equipment of 55 groups and to expand the establishment to 70 groups by 1950, when the yearly cost of maintaining that strength will be about 7,500,000,000 dollars.
