Council of Sport
There was an excellent representation from sports organisations at a meeting held in, the County Chambers, Westport, on Wednesday evening. with the object of reviving the Buller Council of Sport. Mr J. P. McEnaney presided over an attendance of 20 delegates from sports bodies, those represented being: Boxing, Messrs H. McKeown and J. Mears; athletics and cycling, Messrs T. Phipps and R. Hodgson; bowling, Messrs McEnaney and H. Hawes; hockey, Mr E. Kearns; rowing, Mr H. Fraser; basketball, Mr J. S. Connelly; badminton, Messrs J. Todd and A. Duncan; cricket, Messrs G. Hickford and M. Byrne; Granity, Sports Club, Messrs W. Hodgson and Murohy; Community Centre, Mr A. T. Ridsdale; baseball, Misses Halsall and Price. Messrs Tebay and Spencer were also present. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr McEnaney; vice-presidents, Messrs Phipps and McKeown; committee ( (one representative from each organisation) Messrs Kearns, Mears, Hickford, Hodgson, Duncan, Hawes, Ridsdale, M. Fyfe (baseball), W. Craddock (rowing), V. Goodall (Granity). Representatives from basketball, soccer, swimming, croquet, the motor cycling club and other bodies controlling sport in the district are to be added when their names are submitted. Mr Connelly was elected as secretary-treasurer.
