AUCTIONEER’S NOTE: Mr Graham founded his Matareka Herd with the purchase of the well-known sire, WAIMEA TOP NOTCH, from Mr R. V. Brown, Whereroa, and selected females from G. D. Flail and Son, Kio Kio. He later acquired HAEREMAI SWEET WILLIAM from J. H. B. Lili, Willoughby. Following on this, Mr Graham' greatly enhanced the Matareka Herd by the inclusion of PINEDALE OFFICER, and more recently PINEDALE MATCHLESS BULLION, the latter being top-priced bull at the 1945 Pinedale displenishr ing sale. GRADE CATTLE: 10 Grade Cows, in milk. 7 Grade Heifers, due Aug.-Sept. 9 Grade Heifer Calves. 2 Empty Cows with Heifer Calves. All Heifer Calves will be innoculated against conta° r eous abortion. The above cattle are particularly well bred and have plenty of size. The majority of the heifers and yearlings are by the well-known sire Terracedale Dan, Ist prize two-year-cld at Christchurch in 1945, and Ist prize three-year-old in Christchurch in 1946.

The above Southdowns are of a good type and have plenty of size. The late Mr A. T. Hawkins spared no expense to make this a first-class flock. Sires used in recent years include Killeymoon 74/38.
