Inquest on Death of Miner
An inquest was- opened in Greymouth yesterday into the death of Thomas Wright Alexander Blyth, 47, a miner, who died in the Grey Hospital following an accident at the Liverpool State coal mine on Wednesday afternoon. This was presided over by the district coroner, Mr M. J. Fogarty, J.P., and after evidence of identification had been given by James Penrose, it was adjourned sine die. Proceedings for the police were conducted by Constable W. J. Hill.
Mr Blyth was born in Hokitika, his father, Mr Harry Blyth being well-known in the district. He was taken to Canterbury as a boy and for eight years before bis transfer to coal mines, was engaged in quartz mining at Waiuta. It was only last January that he started work in the Liverpool mine as a trucker. He is survived by his mother (a member of the Webster family of Rimu), three brothers, Bert ’(Christel U'.’'jh), Noel (Christchurch) and Clarence (Hawke’s Bay), and three sisters, Mrs M. Cronin (Christchurch), Mrs L. McGuckin (Waipara) and Miss Doris Blyth (Christchurch). The interment will take place at the Karoro Cemetery this afternoon.
