Mr and Mrs Maurice Moon, of “Mistlands”, Murchison, are paying a visit to Greymouth.

Mrs D. Hunter, of Cobden, will leave this week by plane for St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Canada. Mesdames A. R. Schultze, D. Dixon and A. McMillan are at present in Dunedin attending the annual conference of the Dominion Council of Co-operative Women’s Guilds.

The station manager of Station 3ZR, Greymouth, Mr H. C. O’Loughlin, will, leave on a visit to Wellington later this week.

The Ruatapu sub-branch of the Westland Timber Workers Union at its last meeting passed a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the well-known residents of the district, recently deceased, Messrs Archibald McNeil and William Wilson.

It is now reported at Washington that the proposal to nominate General Douglas MacArthur, U.S. Com-mander-in-Chief in Japan, for President is being dropped by the backers, the Republican Party’s preliminary voting in two states was in favour of Mr Harold Strassen.

A native of Kumara, and a former Mayor of Upper Hutt, Mr James Blewman died on Saturday at Wellington at the age of 67 years.
