BRUNNER, April 18.

This week, seven members or the Womens’s Guild will leave on a visit to Dunedin, where the annual conference of the Women’s Co-operative Guilds will be held. Mr R. Turnbull, who has been visiting his son, Mr H. Turnbull, has left on return to Dunedin. Messrs A. Robb and J. Dickson left last week-end for Murchison. Mrs Leathwick, local postmistress, who has resigned from the P.&T. Department, as from this week-end, will continue to live in the district. Her place will be taken by Miss Kins, formerly postmistress at Blackball. Mr Quinn, of Winnipeg, Canada, arrived in the district this week on a visit to her daughter, Mrs A. Wick, of Dobson.

Mr Derby Fletcher, who has worked in the local mines for some 18 years, left last Tuesday on a jusit to his home county of Derbyshire, England, Workmates. »and countrymen gathered at Erunner station to wish him bon voyage. Mr and Mrs A. ✓ Pickering have returned from a visit to Chnstcnui’ch. The bi-annual election of school committees will be held this year on Monday next, April 26, in each of the local schools. For this election, every householder is entitled to, vote, including all adults, male or wmaie. who have resided in any dwellinghouse in th G respective school district, for a period of ar. least three months prior to the election Local footballers have commenced training, and on a recent evening, some 50 players were counted, on the Recreation ground. If this interest is maintained throughout the season, local teams should prove a force to be reckoned with. The senior reserve team contains some players showing ability, but physical fitness is essential if this ability is to be developed.
