Charges Against Soviet by Australian M.'sP.

CANBERRA, April 16. - Commonwealth Government and Opposition speakers criticised Russia as the disturbing element in world affairs when, the House of Representatives continued the debate on external affairs. Mr A. W. Fadden, leader of the Country Party, accused Russia of using grain for political purposes, and he charged that starving European countries could get Soviet grain only if they embraced Communism. Russia had deliberately used the General Assembly of the United Nations as a publicity medium for its own pernicious propaganda. Mr L.'C. Haylen said that Russia had shown that she did not desire an early settlement of Europe. The dream of peace was as far off as ever, because of Russians’ non-co-operation and the operation of the -veto. Mr P. C. Spender said that Russia was out to penetrate the democracies and destroy their economies, one by one. Dr Evatt, the Attorney-General, was more 'concerned with the paraphernalia of democracy than with its substance, and his statement had failed to analyse the causes of world unrest.
