The following positions are recorded at the office of the National Employment Service: — Male Section: A position is available for a youth on a farm in the Hokitika district. The successful applicant will not require to undertake milking and there is excellent accommodation with the family. An opportunity exists with a progressive bakery for a youth to learn the bakery trade. A local gold dredge has vacancies for two oilers. Hotel accommodation can be provided adjacent to the work. Positions are available in local businesses for a qualified butcher, a chemist’s assistant and a qualified boot repairer.. These are excellent positions for men who have the required skill and qualifications. A position with excellent prospects is available with a leading daily newspaper as a general reporter. There are numerous vacancies in the sawmilling industry throughout the West Coast for skilled and unskilled men. The Service will assist in obtaining suitable accommodation for both married and single men. Positions are available with a local engineering firm for boilermakers, moulders, fitters and other engineering tradesmen. There is a prospect of employment for a male clerk in a well-established business in the Hokitika district. Opportunities ex'-st for youths with School Certificates in the Public Service. Vacancies are recorded for clerical cadets in two local Government Departrfients. There are vacancies recorded in the coalmining industry for experienced miners, shiftmen " and inexperienced men who could commence as truckers. The Service will assist in arranging accommodation for workers desiring this employment. Excellent opportunities exist in the Reefton district for tradesmen-carpenters. Generous wages are paid and free board can be arranged. Work on a contract basis is available for tradesmen who desire employment of this nature. Positions are available for carpenters, plumbers, fitters, bricklayers, cleaners, traffic assistants, labourers, with the N'.Z. Railways Department. These are permanent positions with excellent prospects and accommodation for single men can be arranged. Female Section:. Positions are available in Public Hospitals throughout the West Coast for probationer nurses and also for trained nursing staff. Excellent accommodation can be arranged at all hospitals and all applicants for positions as probationer nurses can be assured of permanent positions with excellent prospects. Teaching facilities are excellent, and this is a good opportunity for all girls desiring a professional career. Vacancies are recorded for girls for the household staff of the Greymouth Public Hospital. Good wages are paid with a 40-hour week, and excellent accommodation for 22s 6d a week is provided at the Hospital. The Mental Hospital Department at Hokitika has vacancies for probationer nurses and the commencing wage is £3 a week clear. Ample overtime is provided at 4s sid an hour and for every two days worked there is one day off duty with a month’s holiday on full pay every five months. A female second cook is urgently required and wages for this position commence at £275 per annum rising to £3OO per annum. Two third female cooks are also required at this institution, their wages being the same as those paid to burses.

A local furniture manufacturer requires a girl aged 17-20 years for office and shop work. A certain amount of typing- is required and good wages will be paid to a capable person. Several vacancies for girls are recorded throughout the district for assistance in hotels, factories, restaurants and private homes.
