N.Z. Horse May Fly to Melbourne to Run in Cup

AUCKLAND, June 27. New Zealand’s leading stake-win-ner so far this season, Bruce, will start in the next Melbourne Cup, provided he is anyway reasonably treated in the handicap. This W'as stated by his owner, Mr Scott Ramsay, of Auckland. “Weights for this year’s Melbourne Cup will be declared much later than in previous years. They will not be issued until July 22,” said Mr Ramsay, who has just returned from Australia. It was probable Bruce would make racing history by being flown across Tasman Sea, but this would depend on suitable transport being arranged. He added that, although Bruce was in the top class in New Zealand, it did not necessarily follow that he would be a top-liner in Australia.
