Next War Depends on Guided Missiles

(Dec 6.30) WASHINGTON, June 26. Admiral Nimitz to-day testified before the House Armed Servics Committee on the proposed construction of a vast test sea range at Point Mugu, in California. He said that the next war would be won by the nation that made the greatest strides in the development of guided missiles. It would be fallacious and dangerous to assume that the United States would be that nation. The Navy announced to-day that 440 scientists and technicians will return to Bikini this summer to check the long-range results of atom bomb tests held there last year. Divers will check the state of sunken ships in the lagoon. The geologists will bring back samples of radioactive work and radiological surveys will be made of the water and its organisms. The announcement Stressed, “Bikini is still the only laboratory where defensive measures for harbours against atomic attack may proficiently be studied.”
