Mrs E. McNeill, of Christchurch, formerly of Cobden, who is at present visiting relatives and friends on the West Coast, leaves on return by to-morrow’s express.

Mr R. L. Roud, of Auckland, elder son of Mrs V. Roud, Greymouth, was a successful candidate in the final examinations for registered surveyors held at Wellington recently.

Sir Charles Hercus, Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Otago, accompanied by Lad.y Hercus, will arrive in Greymouth tomorrow.

Mr Deryck Gallagher, who has received the degree of Master of Medical Science (in Physiology) at the University of Otago, is the first of its own students on whom the University has conferred this degree.

The Duke of’Windsor visited the King for three-quarters of an hour at Buckingham Palace for the first time since he arrived in England on May 15. Earlier he saw Queen Mary at Marlborough House.

The Assistant-General Manager of New Zealand Railways, Mr C. R. Riesop, and the Chief Accountant, Mr McAuley, will leave Auckland’ by air to-day for Australia, en route to the New Zealand and Australian Officers Conference, which will be held at Perth next month. The death occurred at Westland Hospital on Wednesday of Mr Robert Marshall Thompson, of Ross. The late Mr Thompson has been a resident of Ross for the past 19 years. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs K. McKay and a daughter in Scotland, and three sons, Andrew, John, and Robert (Ross). The private funeral will take place at Christchurch to-day.
