The Duchess of Kent ’will fly to Greece on May 27 on the first visit since the war to see her mother, Princess Nicholas, who visited the Duchess in Britain in 1945.

Sir Miles Thomas, vice-chairman of the Nuffield Organisation has been elected president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, London, for 1947-48.

The Minister of Labour, Mr McLagan, stated that the registrar of industrial unions has received a telegram from Mr J. Childerhouse, of Tarakohe. asking that his nomination as nominated member of the Court of Arbitration representing the workers be cancelled. The Minister has accordingly advised industrial unions of workers that any recommendation in favour of Mr Childerhouse would be ineffective.

The death occurred at Greymouth yesterday morning of Mrs Fredrica Theresa Wallis, aged 76 years. The late Mrs Wallis was a native of County Cork, Ireland, and came to New Zealand 55 years ago. For the past 20 years she had been a resident of Greymouth, and prior to that time, lived at Invercargill and Dunedin. She was predeceased by her husband many, years ago, and is survived by two sons, Messrs Norman and Arthur Wallis, of Greymouth. The private interment will take place at Dunedin to-morrow.
