British Soldiers Marrying Germans

LONDON, May 21. The Secretary for War, Mr F. J. Bellenger, in the House of Commons in reply to a question said that to May 16, 3633 British soldiers had applied for permission to marry German girls.' One thousand two hundred and fifty-four marriages would be authorised when the formalities were completed. Four hundred and four permits to marry had been granted.

The sting of a stingray, measuring over seven inches long, was found by a Howick fisherman embeded in the throat of a kingfish which was caught off Mellon’s Bay, Auckland last week. The sting had penetrated over three inches into the fiesh of the fish and was encrusted with barnacles. The kingfish, which was over 3ft long and weighed 211 b, did not seem to have been seriously affected by the sting.
