CONTRABAND CIGARETTES
LONDON, May 20. The police in Trieste are detaining the American liberty ship Grever Hutchinson until the master deposits £5OOO as surety pending the discovery of several million allegedly contraband''’ cigarettes in waterproof sacks during a search of the ship. Another American ship, the Victory Macalister on which cigarettes were also discovered, was permitted to sail after the master had deposited £1,500.
