AGAINST U.S. CAMPAIGN

TO FIGHT THEM IN PALESTINE

(Rec. May 20, at 7.55 p.m. . NEW YORK May 19. Britain has protested to the United States against the raising of funds in the United States to finance the armed resistance against the British forces in Palestine.

The New York Times Washington correspondent makes this announcement, stating: It is understood that the British Ambassador, Lord Inverchapel, has sent a letter to the State Department, stating that one recent advertisement in the American press amounted to an incitement to minder the British officials and soldiers in Palestine. Up is” believed to have been referring to a newspaper advertisement published last Thursday, in which the playwright, Ben Hecht declared that the American Jews are gratified when the Palesti"- J -"- Torists blow up a arsenal, wreck a British gaol, rob - bank, or use their guns and bombs against the British betrayers and invaders of their homeland.” Lord Inverchapel’s letter has, apparently, made it clear that Britain is not asking for suppression of this advertisement or of any kind of advertisement, but he stated that Britain did not understand why Americans should contribute funds to carry on war against, a friendly nation. It is understood that Lord INverchapel has also raised the question as to whether the money raised to facilitate the illegal Jewish immigration into Palestine should be exempt from taxation as being charitable contributions. The New York Times correspondent says: It is apparent that the question of the financing of the resistance to the British in Palestine from tax-exempt funds is now reaching a critical' point, and is under active State Department review.
