Jews Flown to Palestine in Defiance of Britain
(Rec. 9.40). NEW YORK, May-18. A number of Jews from Europe have been parachuted into Palestine within the last three weeks, from aircraft chartered by the Political Action Committee for Palestine and more are in training for similar “repatriation by ail,” under a programme which is being supervised by former American Navy and Army officers. This information v, as made known by a member of the Political Action Committee, Rabbi Baruch Korff, tonight. He refused to disclose the place from which these planes took off, hut he said that they have made flights to Palestine and return in ten hours.
He said: “The British warned us to halt these operations. Their warning will only intensify our preparations.” Britain will supply any information the Palestine Commission may require, but will njake no suggestion, or offer any recommendations for 'a solution of the Palestine problem, said a British spokesman. “We take the position that the probelm has now been turned over to the United Nations, and feel that if we offered any recommendation, it would look as though we were trying to steer the commission. That we do not intend to do.” The Associated Press says: The United States is expected to take a similar stand. LONDON, May 17. The Stern Gang has issued terms for “Cease Fire” against, the British forces in Palestine, reports Reuter’s correspondent in Jerusalem. The terms are: — (1) No deportation of the illegal immigrants. (2) The abolition of the military regime and military courts. (3) No deportations to Kenya. (4) Ail curfew and other restrictions to be lifted. (5) No confiscation of property. (6) No arms searches or other operations against the “underground” fighters.”
