SAVAGE LAHORE RIOTS STOPPED BY BRITISH TROOPS

(Rec. 9.50). LONDON, May 18. British troops were rushed to Lahore, where they brought rioting and fire-raising crowds undei’ control, says a Reuter correspondent at Lahore. Rioters' used a four-hour relaxation of the curfew for an orgy of stabbing, fighting, and stone throwing. Police opened fire on one pitched battle. They killed two rioters. A crowd, before the police arrived, sprinkled one victim with petrol, and burned him to death. Stabbings caused two other deaths last night, bringing the total killed in four days of communal rioting in Lahore to forty-eight. (Rec. 10.50). LONDON, May 18. ’
