N.Z. HORSES WIN IN FINE STYLE AT SYDNEY

(Rec. 6.30). SYDNEY, May 18. The New Zealander, Immediate, who was little favoured for the Flying Handicap at Randwick yesterday, won brilliantly with a terrific flnish- - ing burst, and has earned a trip to Brisbane for the Doornben Ten Thousand event. Immediate was second last after the field had gone a furlong, and was still eight lengths from the front runners as they swung into the straight. Wide out in the centre at the Leger Stand., he started a sensational run to catch Earl Pentheus. The result was still in doubt fifteen yards from home, and the photo was used to decide the issue. The connections of the New Zealander, Frontal Attack, are planning to start him in the next Melbourne Cup after his sound win in the First Novice division. Frontal Attack fought, out a photo finish with his compatriot, Rotoiti, and Namesake, and won the decision by a nose. This is his second start in Australia. He was unplaced at Rosehill last week over seven furlongs. Sixth into the straight, he pressed home a strong challenge and won going away. Results:— Novice Handican: First Division: Frontal Attack 8.2 1; Namesake 8.2 2; Rotoiti 8.2 3. Sixteen started. A nose; a neck. Time: 1.391. Flying Handicap: Immediate 9.3 1;

Earl Pentheus 2. Barnes Plate: Lady Marie 8.0 1: Fort Denison 7.3 2; Crusader 8.9 3. Eight started. Three-quarters of a length; half a length. Time: 2.61. Ajax, champion racehorse, and now an outstanding sire, will be auctioned at Sydney on July 4 to dissolve the partnership between Danmark, Limited, and the estate of the late A. W. Thompson. In 46 starts he had 36 wins, seven seconds, and two thirds. He won £40,275 in stake money, and is placed fourth below Phar Lap, Amounis and Gloaming as the greatest Australasian stake winner. His progeny, some of whom have raced successfully in America, include Magnificent, Chaperone, Civic Pride and Havoc.
