Java Saboteurs Burn Dutch Rubber And Harbour Facilities

(Rec. 10.25). BATAVIA, May 2. Sabotage is suspected to have been the cause of a fire last night which razed the go-down of the Rotterdam Lloyd Shipping Line in Batavia harbour, destroying, among other goods, five thousand tons of rubber which were seized in March from the American freighter, Martin Behrman, when it was attempting to take the rubber from Java. The Netherlands Shipping Line’s flagship, Oranje, which served as a hospital ship during the war, was among a number of vessels which had to be towed to safety. The damage is estimated at one million Dutch guilders.
