MAY DAY PARADE IN NEW YORK

(Rec. 8.55.) NEW YORK, May 1. The annual May Day parade here was held to-day. It is estimated one hundred thousand took part in a march, and later gathered in Union Square, where they heard speakers, including the Negro singer, Paul Robeson.

The parade was marked by posters which were directed at the defeat of the pending anti-labouj- legislation, and also of President Truman’s programme for aid to Greece, Turkey, and China.

Slogans characteristic of the posters were the following:— “Let Greek people decide their own destiny!”,' “Hitler cried Red and Democracy was Dead!”; “Free Spain Now!”

On the other hand, the Roman Catholics throughout the United States, and Canada, and Hawaii joined to-day in special prayers “for the Russian people, and for the millions who are living in Communist dominated lands.”
