OVER 2800 KILLED IN PUNJAB FACTION FIGHTS
(Rec. 8.10) NEW DELHI. March 22. The latest Punjab riot casualty figures are:— Killed 2060 Injured 1104 Lord and Lady Mountbatten have arrived by air at New Delhi. They were met by Mr Nehru, General Auchinleck, and Liaquat Ali Khan. Later Lord and Lady Wavell received Lord and Lady Mountbatten at the Viceroy’s palace. During a stop at Karachi Lord Mountbatten said: We have affection and admiration for India. Our task is onerous, but we hope we will succeed. BOMBAY, March 22.
Dr Jinnah, Moslem leader, has appealed to the Moslems to observe Pakistan Day to-day peacefully, and, in co-operation with the authorities. He had declared that the Moslems were fast reaching a realisation of their goal.
