Mr and Mrs W. Bell, of Cobden, returned on Saturday’s express after a tour of the North Island. Miss Flora McLean returned on Saturday following a visit to Wellington.

The funeral of the late Mr D. Healey, of Runanga, took place at the Karoro Cemetery yesterday afternoon, the services at the Runanga Catholic Church and the grave being conducted by the Rev. Father Foley, of Runanga. The pall-bearers were members of the R.S.A., Miners’ Union, and Bowling Club of Runanga, and at the graveside Mr E. McHerron sounded “The Last Tost” and “The Reveille”.

The death occurred at the residence of her daughter (Mrs W. Reid), 31 Nayland St., Sumner, of Mrs Frances Scarlett, wife of the late Mr L. Scarlett, of Reefton, in her 85th year. For many years she conducted an hotel business at Westport with her husband. A public funeral will take place at Reefton on Tuesday, March 25. Mrs Scarlett was one of the oldest and best known residents of Reefton.

The death took place on Saturday morning last, at South Beach, of Mr James Duncan Hearn, in his 78th year. Born at Arthurstown, Hoki-tika,-Mr Hearn had spent the greater part of his life in the sawmilling industry on the Coast. He was the proprietor of the Kumara Junction Hotel about 15 years ago, and had resided at South Beach for the past nine years. He was as a young man a well-known oarsman. He is survived by his wife, two sons, George (Ohakune) and Henry (South Beach), one brother, Thomas (Wellington), and two sisters, Mrs A. O’Neill (Dunollie) and Mrs E. Edwards (Howick).
