EMULOUS PRESIDENT’S CHOICE Globe Direct Express Fancy Followers of trotting will find much to interest them at Addington to-day, when the N.Z. Metiopolitan Trotting Club’s Easter carnival will open. While the programme provides a rich stake for the best pacers in commission, the claims of the improvers have not been oveilooked. In addition the Autumn Stakes run over a twelve furlong journey, under special conditions, gives the best four and five-year-olds a ch.xnce to compete for a good prize, while the N.Z. Trotting Stakes is confined to three-year-old trotters. Events of this nature do much to encourage the breeding of the square gaiter, and each year since its inception an improvement has been noted in the numbers and the gait of those taking part. The Oamaru Jockey Club’s meeting will open to-day and conclude on Monday. Several of those engaged showed good form on the recent West Coast circuit, and their displays to-day will be closely watched. Authentic who showed a welcome return to form at Greymouth, following this up by a .meritorious win at the Bank’s Peninsula fixture, should go close to taking the Oamaru Cup. If Palomino is reserved for the Stewards Handicap, she should prove one of the hardest to beat. The seven furlong journey will suit her nicely. The track is reported to be hard and fast and the following horses are expected to give a good account, of themselves.
