Wellington Keeps Within Bounds
P.A. WELLINGTON, March 20. Mr Sullivan stated: “The reduced broadcasting hours apply to stations throughout the country”. Street lighting will be reduced. Whether domestic water-heaters will be cut off depends on the success of the supply authorities in maintaining the new quotas without doing so. It is not made immediately mandatory. If other measures to save power fail, the power authorities have orders to disconnect wat-er-heaters at once.
Wellington electricity consumers had at last done their share towards keeping power consumption within the limits set by the State Hydro Department, said Cr F. W. Furket, chairman of the Electrciity Committee at the Wellington City Council’s meeting .
Last year Wellington was allocated a maximum increase of 3 per cent, and the actual increase for the year was .5 per cent., said Cr Furket. This year the allocated increase was 3 per cent, and, up to the week ending March 16, the increase was 2.84 percent.
A motion was passed that, as the city has been keeping within the required limits, it should be given a quota by the department and allowed to administer it in its own way.
