SHARK SERVED
(Rec. 9.30). SYDNEY, Feb. 21. A sham alarm, sounded in a city fish restaurant to-day, brought a prompt response Two soldiers ordered bream, but when vhey were served, one declared that the fish on his plate was shark fillet. He telephoned to the authorities while his companion stood guard over the suspected dinner. Inspectors were promptly on the scene and a detailed examination followed. A summons was issued o p the spot and the proprietor now charges of false description an d adulteration. He is liable to a maximum fine of twenty pounds if convicted.
CHRISTCHURCH FIRE. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 20. Fire sweeping through dozens of modern furniture suites and hundreds of yards of irreplaceable materials gutted the store of Smiths City Market in Dundas Street early this morning. The damage is estimated conservatively at about £6OOO, but it is considered that the actual loss was considerably greater. Over 30 new chesterfield suites, valued at £lOOO, and three late mod--511. motor-cars owned by the firm, which were in the building throughout the fire, were badly damaged. Over 50 fowls perished.
