U.S.A. VESSEL CHECKED UP. (Rec 30.40). SYDNEY, February 21. Immigration officers. to-day thoroughly checked the American steamer, Marine Phoenix, when she arrived from San Francisco. This action is the result of the Federal Government decision to keep the closest possible check on the aliens entering the country in view of the rocket tests in Central Australia. The ship brought 578 passengers, of whom 179 are aliens, including 23 refugees from Central Europe. The immigration officers asked those whose papers were not in order to stand aside while their cases were referred to headquarters in Sydney, or to the Department of Immigration at Canberra. The examination lasted all day, and it will be continued to-mor-row. The passengers included 70 American ex-servicemen, who intend settling here or marrying Australian girls. I
