JEWISH INFLUX
TO AUSTRALIA OPPOSITION LEADER’S VIEWS. CANBERRA, Feb. 19. “If there is to be any preference in migration it must be accorded British citizens,” said Mr R. G. Menzies, Leader of the Opposition. In common with most Australians he had been disturbed by reports indicating that Jewish refugees were experiencing less difficulty in migrating to Australia than British subjects. Non-British migrants were welcome in view of the necessity for increased population. Proportions should be observed. He said: “The danger of anti-Semitism and racial prejudices would be greatly increased if the Australian public felt that too 'great a proportiofi of Jewish refugees was included in our annual immigration figures.”
